Are both Daxie Den homes licensed and insured?

Yes. Daxie Den operates across two properties in Washington, Tyne & Wear. Both homes are council licensed and Daxie Den is fully insured. One is our social boarding setting and the other is dedicated to solo care.

Are you dedicated to dachshunds?

Yes — our passion for dachshunds runs deep. We understand their sensitive nature, big personalities and breed-specific quirks. They are at the heart of Daxie Den and always will be.

Which dogs do you accept?

We are dedicated to dachshunds of all sizes. In our solo home, we can also welcome a dachshund together with a sibling from another breed because the whole household stays without resident dogs or unrelated guests. Every dog is still assessed individually.

Can my dachshund and their different-breed sibling stay together?

Yes, this may be possible through solo boarding. We take one household at a time, which means your dachshund and their sibling can stay together without unrelated guest dogs in the home. Please tell us both dogs’ full needs and history so we can confirm suitability.

Why do you need so much detail about my dog?

Dachshunds are sensitive and the more we know, the more thoughtfully we can tailor our approach. Please tell us about health, routines, behaviour, worries and previous experiences honestly. There is no judgement, but we must be sure our setting is safe and suitable for your dog and every dog in our care.

How does the settling-in process work?

New social boarders begin with a local meet-and-greet walk, at least two daycare sessions and a successful trial night before a longer holiday is booked. Dogs who need more time may benefit from extra settling-in visits.

What happens at a solo meet and greet?

We take a relaxed walk around our local area and may bring one of our calm, well-behaved resident dachshunds nearby. They do not need to interact; it simply helps us understand your dog’s body language and plan their care.

Does my dog need to be neutered?

Neutered males and females not in season may be suitable for social or solo care. Male and female puppies may join social boarding before hormonal or behaviour changes. Intact adult males, and females due in, in or around a season, are solo-care only. We always assess the individual dog.

What vaccinations are required?

Dogs must meet our vaccination requirements and be up to date with flea and worm treatment. We will ask for evidence before their stay.

Where will my dog sleep?

We agree a safe sleeping arrangement during settling in. Pens, crates and separate rooms are available, and familiar bedding is welcome. Dogs do not sleep in human beds, although our solo home can offer a bedroom-based arrangement without allowing dogs on the human bed.

Will I receive updates?

Absolutely. We send photos, videos and honest pupdates so you can see how your dog is settling and enjoying their stay.

Can you administer medication or support special requirements?

We can often administer medication with clear written instructions and may be able to support medical or additional care needs, particularly through solo care. Extra charges may apply. Tell us everything in your enquiry so we can assess this safely.

Do you offer emergency boarding?

Yes, subject to availability, assessment and suitability. Emergency care is priced on request. Even when a request is urgent, we still need full information about your dog so we can make a safe decision.

Do you offer wedding chaperone care?

Yes. We tailor wedding-day care around your venue, timings and your dog’s needs. Pricing depends on travel and the support required, so please share your plans through the enquiry form.

What if I need something not listed on the website?

Please reach out. We will always tell you honestly whether we can help. We also work with numerous trusted local boarders and dog trainers, so where possible we can point families towards another suitable service or specialist support.

How early should I book?

As early as possible, especially for school holidays and peak dates. Boarding dates can only be secured after successful trials and payment of the required deposit.

Something more specific?

There is no silly question.

Every family and every dog is different. Tell us what you need and we will either explore it with you or, where we can, help point you towards a trusted local boarder or dog trainer.
